Drivers have been advised to remove certain items from their cars before tomorrow. With wintery weather on the way, CarMoney.com has warned that certain items can be damaged or even broken if left in a cold car.

A bout of cold weather is forecast across the country, with yellow and amber weather warnings for snow and ice issued for today and tomorrow (November 19 and 20). Today’s warnings cover north and south Scotland (Wick, Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dumfries), Northern Ireland (Derry, Belfast), Wales (Conwy, Cardiff), and the north of England (Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Hull, Carlisle, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds). The warning also includes the Midlands (Birmingham, Northampton, Luton, Cheltenham), and the southwest of England (Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth, St Ives). Temperatures as low as -10C have been forecast by WXCharts, Here are six items drivers should remove from their car before tomorrow, according to CarMoney.com.

Snapped spectacles on a sunny wooden table

Glasses

Extremely cold temperatures can damage the lenses by causing them to expand and contract, as well as making the frames susceptible to snapping. Keeping them in a case can help protect them.

Instruments

Violins, guitars and cellos, plus other wooden instruments, are vulnerable to shrinking and expanding in cold temperatures, which will damage or break the glue joints, making them unplayable.

Medicine

Hard pills and capsules should be affected the least, but liquids and injectable medications can be altered by low temperatures. Always store medication at room temperature to maintain its potency.

Devices

Laptops and other devices will fare badly due to their internal lithium-ion batteries becoming compromised by the cold weather. Expensive electronics should also not be left in cars for security reasons.

Fizzy drinks

The water in the frozen carbonated beverage will expand as it freezes, putting pressure on the CO2 inside and causing the can to explode.

Paint

The ingredients in paint can be affected by the cold, with freezing, expansion, separation and clumping all having the capability to make it completely unusable.
