If May sales have shown us anything, it’s that hybrids are hot and Ford is not. Fun is also in as Subaru WRX sales jumped nearly 150% compared to a year ago.

Mazda posted an even more impressive increase for the ND MX-5 Miata that has been around in its current form since 2015. Sales of the two-seater soared 196.6% to 1,053 units. That easily eclipsed the Subaru BRZ and Honda Prelude, which managed just 255 and 318 units respectively. Combined, the pair moved 573 units, meaning Mazda sold nearly twice as many Miatas as both models put together.

The Japanese automaker didn’t touch on sales of the roadster, but noted they had their best month since July of 2025. Americans snapped up 39,066 vehicles, which was a 35% increase from a year ago.

Unsurprisingly, the CX-50 Hybrid is selling like hotcakes and had its best month ever. The automaker didn’t give detailed numbers, but overall CX-50 sales were up 107.2% to 14,897 units.

That’s interesting to note as the CX-5 used to outsell the CX-50. This situation has now flipped as sales of the redesigned crossover fell 17.9% to 7,805 units. The 2026 CX-5 went on sale earlier this year and features a 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G four-cylinder with 187 hp (139 kW / 190 PS) and 185 lb-ft (251 Nm) of torque. It will be joined by an all-new hybrid powertrain in 2027, which uses a SkyActiv-Z engine.

Sticking with crossovers, the CX-70 was up 31.6% to 1,402 units. However, it was overshadowed by the more practical CX-90, which found 4,728 takers for a 16.9% increase. The affordable CX-30 also saw a 16.9% gain.

Considering fuel economy was on the minds of many consumers, it’s hardly surprising the Mazda3 got a second look from shoppers. The lineup experienced its best sales since May of 2021 as dealers moved 4,121 sedans and hatchbacks. That was a 68% increase from a year ago and it shows cars aren’t dead yet.
