This stunning 1968 Jaguar E Type has undergone a seven year nut and bolt restoration and is being sold by Charterhouse, estimated at £65,000-75,000

Voted the best British car ever in a worldwide poll, an immaculate example of the iconic sports car the Jaguar E Type was sold by Charterhouse Auctioneers in Sherborne in its classic and vintage car auction.

"The Jaguar E Type is possibly one of the more recognisable motor cars produced," said valuer Matthew Whitney. "With its gorgeous long body, it was an instant hit when unveiled at The Geneva Motor Show in 1961, with celebrities including Steve McQueen, George Best, Bridget Bardot and Frank Sinatra buying one."

The Jaguar E Type that went under the Charterhouse hammer is a 1968 fixed head coupe fitted with the 4.2 litre six cylinder engine. From the first year of production of the Series II E Type, it has undergone a seven year nut and bolt restoration for its owner, who lives in Wales. Now presented at auction in a better than new condition, this matching numbers E Type painted in its original colour of Jaguar Ice Blue with matching blue leather and chrome wire wheels is estimated at £65,000-75,000.
