A former car salesman has explained how pressing one button when starting up your car this winter can help warm it up in minutes.

The freezing weather has finally descended upon us, bringing snowfall to several parts of the country. During these bitter conditions, a motoring enthusiast and ex-car salesman has revealed his essential tips for handling vehicles as temperatures plunge. To help, the expert has explained what he considers the most effective method to heat up a frozen motor rapidly and efficiently this winter. Surprisingly, activating one rarely-used button could help achieve warmth much faster.

Speaking on TikTok, user 'Capturing Cars' questioned followers: "Do you know the best way to heat your car as quickly as possible during these winter months?" He then proceeded to share his key advice.

The first step involves maximising the temperature setting in your vehicle – regardless of whether you have separate controls for each seat, or a single one. He insisted: "Turn the temperature up to full, first of all."

Next, start the fans to the middle setting. The motoring expert then recommended adjusting the air flow so it's directed into the vehicle to warm occupants more quickly.

This can be achieved by selecting the button that typically resembles a person seated with various arrows pointing towards them.

Nevertheless, the third step is the most vital one. The driver explained: "The next thing you want to do is one of the most important steps, and that is hitting this button just here."

The button concerned displays an icon resembling a vehicle with a circular arrow within it. It's also referred to as the air recirculation function.

In certain vehicles, this could be a slider instead of a button. By activating it, you'll ensure the heated air you've circulated throughout the cabin continues to recirculate rather than drawing in frigid air from outside.

He continued: "So switch that on, at least for the first five to ten minutes."

Following this, he urged motorists to activate the air conditioning. Whilst many assume AC is solely for sweltering weather when you need to cool the vehicle down, it's equally brilliant for heating up your motor.

The motoring expert added: "It's just a way more efficient way to warm the car up quickly. So make sure you've got that on as well, the recirculation button, the temperature is up. And that is how you warm up your car quickly."

Once your car reaches a comfortable temperature, switch it back to drawing in outside air to maintain freshness.

It genuinely is that easy!
