A top motoring expert has revealed every motorist on the road is making one major mistake when cleaning their car windows and windscreen in 2025. Specialists at the YouTube channel Chemical Guys explained that the type of cleaner motorists use may not make as big a difference as road users may believe.

Instead, it was the choice of towel used to scrub a vehicle that was more important, with one type of cloth ahead of the game. The experts said drivers should get hold of a ‘waffle weave’ towel, which will suck up dirt on glass surfaces a lot quicker than regular cloths. These are a special fabric with a honeycomb or lattice pattern that traps moisture in seconds.

YouTube channel Chemical Guys explained: “The number one mistake that most people make is their towel choice. You can grab those little yellow towels from your big warehouse but they’re not going to be as good as a waffle wave towel. Now if you’ve ever heard of a waffle weave towel before, you're in for a big treat just like you’d be in for a treat if you got a waffle for breakfast.

“The cool thing about a waffle is it's got these little ridges in it right, so when you pour your syrup in there, it holds the syrup in the little crevices.

“So the same thing applies with glass and glass clever, when you're wiping with a regular microfiber towel, chances are you’re just streaking the liquid across the surface rather than scooping it up with a waffle weave towel.”

Waffle weave towels are likely to be more expensive to buy than traditional microfiber cloths, making them an investment.

Reddit users took to social media to praise the technique, with several road users confirming they had been impressed with the end result after using the special cloth on their cars.

@Spare_Ring9644 posted: “I like waffle weave towels, i clean them before first usage, i soak one in rinse less wash and ring it out until it’s nearly dry. That’s the first pass to get the rinse-less wash on the glass, then I follow it up with a dry waffle weave towel. Works beautifully.”

@Jhiong86 added: “Use waffle weave with 50/50 iso alcohol mix. Window tint guy told me that alcohol cleans windows best. I’ll be damned, he was right. Quicker, easier, and more efficient."
