Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer has issued a simple tip to every owner of a used second-hand petrol, diesel or electric car in the UK. The presenter of the popular classic car restoration series urged road users to join a car club that corresponds to the vehicle they own.
He explained motorists could benefit from a wealth of advice from fellow road users, which could result in a quick fix. Mike added that road users will often find a knowledgeable expert “at the end of a phone” who can talk owners through issues quickly and easily. It could help owners diagnose issues with their vehicle in minutes, even before heading to a garage for closer inspection.
Mike made the admission after addressing the Mercedes Car Club alongside co-host Marc Priestley, nicknamed Elvis, at the famous UK race circuit.
Speaking at the Silverstone Festival, Mike said: “Me and Elvis have a lot to say about car clubs. We always use it as our first point of call for any Wheeler Dealers build we do.
“We reach out to the car club first, as the chances are somebody in the club has done the job before and they are going to know better than we do about how to fix the car.
“Chances are we might even find the car that we want advertised within the club by a club member. We always give that information. Anyone that’s interested in buying a car, reach out to the club first.”
“Clubs give you more than just a membership and a newsletter, they give you days out, events like this, they give you camaraderie. There can be somebody on the end of a phone when you’ve got a bit of trouble with your car and they've been through it, they can talk you through it.”
Clubs can vary with some more generic historic vehicle associations based in towns and cities, connecting owners with a love of classics together. However, motorists can join a specialist car enthusiast club for almost every manufacturer or make for a small membership fee.
Some of the most well-known enthusiast clubs in the UK include the TVR Owners Club, Morris Minors Owners Club and MG Owners Club,
Mike added: “There are a lot of really really good reasons to join a car club and we must advocate on how good car clubs are.”
