Last year, Ford won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with Romain Dumas behind the wheel of its 1,400-horsepower F-150 Lightning SuperTruck. In 2023, Dumas came in second, driving the brand's equally powerful SuperVan. This year, Ford aims to maintain its position atop the podium with a purpose-built Mustang Mach-E hill climb race car.
Ford teased its Mustang Mach-E racer late last month, complete with a massive rear wing and an aggressive body kit. Today, though, the company released all the juicy details on its 2025 Pikes Peak racer—and it might be even more impressive than the SuperTruck and SuperVan before it.
The Mach-E follows in the burnt rubber of Ford's Pikes Peak racers before it. With three electric motors making 1,421 horsepower, it's just a titch more powerful than the SuperVan and SuperTruck, which both produced 1,400 horsepower on the dot.
The Mach-E's 50.0-kilowatt-hour battery pack feeds three electric motors operating at a voltage of 799V, and the entire electric powertrain is somehow 260 pounds lighter than last year. It also has an impressive regenerative braking capacity of 710 kilowatts.
To ensure all that horsepower makes it around Pikes Peak's 156-turn course, Ford fitted the Mach-E with special forged magnesium wheels shod in Pirelli P-Zero tires. Carbon brakes bring the EV back down to speed, while the aggressive aero kit yields 6,900 pounds of downforce at 150 miles per hour and up to 12,000 pounds at 200 miles per hour (though, don't expect to see those speeds at Pikes Peak).
That's even more downforce than the 6,125 pounds that Ford originally touted, and better still than both the SuperTruck and SuperVan, which had 6,000 pounds and 4,400 pounds of downforce, respectively.
'We're continuing to push the boundaries of what's possible with electric vehicles. This Super Mustang Mach-E demonstrator represents the next stage in our electrification journey—lighter, leaner, just as powerful, and more capable in high-altitude competition.' — Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance
Ford dominated Pikes Peak with the SuperTruck in 2024 and nearly secured a win with the SuperVan the year prior. The question is: Can Ford repeat its success at Pikes Peak with the Mach-E this year?
Ford and Romain Dumas certainly think so.
This will be Dumas's third Pikes Peak with Ford and his 10th overall. Dumas still holds the record at Pikes Peak with his 7:57.148 lap he set while behind the wheel of the Volkswagen ID.R concept back in 2018.
'After last year's incredible run with the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck and SuperVan 4.2 before it, I'm honored to be back with Ford to take on this challenge once again. This Mach-E is a different beast, and we're excited to see what it can do on the mountain.' — Romain Dumas
The 2025 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb kicks off on June 22.
