You know the story: the Japspeed Subaru became folklore after it was stolen in 2011, later recovered, and eventually reborn. Fast-forward to Trax 2025, where the team pulled the cover off the rebuilt Impreza and reunited it with its most famous pilot, Shane Lynch. A few teething issues kept it out of the Drift Kings demos that day—but that chapter’s closed. The team sorted the snags, hit Teesside for a proper shakedown, and the verdict is simple: it’s ready.

Want to witness the comeback, not just read about it? Make sure you grab your Classic Japfest tickets then!

Under the bonnet lives a Wegner-supercharged LS9 V8 delivering around 1,000bhp – exactly the firepower needed for Goodwood’s high-speed sweepers. Beneath the familiar, period-correct Japspeed livery and silhouette, Team Japspeed refreshed the chassis to modern drift standards—dialling in the lock, steering angle, and suspension setup so it runs at contemporary competition pace.. In short: it looks like the icon you remember but moves like a 2025-spec drift weapon.

Hear the LS9 roar and feel the ground shake at Classic Japfest on Oct 4–5!

At Silverstone, Japspeed formally unveiled the car and reunited it with Shane Lynch, confirming the comeback narrative in front of a packed Trax crowd. Organisers trailed the appearance in advance, highlighting the car’s 1,000 bhp rebirth and Lynch’s return. A few teething issues on the day meant Lynch did not run the car in the Drift Kings demos as planned. The team has addressed the snags and set the next outing – Classic Japfest.

The reunion everyone wanted is happening on our turf! Shane Lynch is confirmed to drive, with Baggsy also scheduled to take stints. Expect big angle, fat smoke, and full send during the Japfest drift demos—perfect viewing from the fences and grandstands as Goodwood’s flow lets the Subaru stretch its legs.

Fans won’t need to wait long to see the Japspeed Subaru back at full tilt. Shane Lynch and Baggsy are scheduled to drive the car in anger at Classic Japfest, Goodwood Motor Circuit, on Saturday 4 October 2025.
