the breakdown

  • Luftgekhühlt is expanding to Japan with its first Tokyo event.
  • KK Route in Ginza closes for a showcase of air-cooled Porsches on March 14.
  • Hundreds of rare Porsches are expected, including historic and legendary models.

Luftgekhühlt has quickly become the show for Porsche lovers. The event, which started in Southern California over a decade ago, has now hosted gatherings across the US and ventured into Europe. But the show is set to take a big leap this year with the announcement of Luft Tokyo.

On Saturday, March 14th, 2026, Luft will take over a currently closed section of the KK Route in Tokyo. It's an expressway that's been shut down for redevelopment. The route runs through the heart of the Ginza district and should deliver a visual feast once it's packed with air-cooled Porsches.

The car scene in Japan is filled with legendary vehicles from all decades. Luft Tokyo is likely to see some heavy hitters from Porsche's past make an appearance. After all, Japan is the place where you wouldn't be shocked to see a road-legal Porsche 962 just hustling down a city street.

If you have a worthy vehicle, registration opens on January 22nd. If you don't have such a vehicle, you can at least buy a ticket starting February 2nd. And if you're like me, with nary a Porsche or a ticket to Japan in sight, we'll just have to wait for the eventual amazing photographs to arrive once the event concludes.

Either way, Luft Tokyo should prove to be an amazing time. If you need a refresher on what makes Luft so special, we've got you covered.

Motor1's Take: We love Luft. Between the stunning classic Porsches and the awe-inspiring visuals, it is truly one of our favorite events to attend. Setting up shop in downtown Tokyo could make for one of the best Luftgekhühlt events to date.
