New Porsche 911 Carrera 4S gets 30bhp boost and GTS brakes

The updated Porsche 911 Carrera 4S has been unveiled, packing an extra 30bhp than the previous iteration.

The extra grunt comes courtesy of an intercooler borrowed from the more potent 911 Turbo, boosting the 4S to a total output of 473bhp.

That allows it to complete the 0-62mph dash in 3.3sec (when fitted with the optional Sport Chrono pack), the same as previously. It will go on to a top speed of 191mph.

The 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat six can be had only with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic (PDK) gearbox, meaning manual buyers have to opt for either the less potent 911 T or the rarefied GT3 and S/T models.

The 4S does however come with a new sports exhaust system to help uncork the flat six's signature howl.

It also gets brakes from the more sporting GTS model, with 408mm discs up front and 380mm at the rear.

It will be offered in three bodystyles: a traditional coupé and cabriolet, as well as a Targa.

The coupé is a two-seater as standard (a back row is a free option), whereas the cabrio and Targa come as 2+2s.

The Targa also gets rear-wheel steering to boost agility and counteract its extra heft compared with its less complex counterparts.

Prices for the new 4S coupé start at £127,000 (RRP), while the cabrio is £137,000 and the Targa £137,600.
