The shining star of the event was a bespoke 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster ‘Rallywagen’, which soared past its high estimate to sell for a jaw-dropping £761,875. This rare beast is one of only 209 alloy block, disc brake 300SL Roadsters ever built, though it’s since been equipped with a sturdier cast-iron block—making it a standout prize for collectors.

James McWilliam, sales manager at H&H Classics, said: “The result for the 300SL Roadster was extraordinary and a perfect way to launch our first auction at Kelham Hall. The sale brought together a remarkable lineup of sought-after vehicles, and it was thrilling to see so many finding new homes.”

Other notable sales lit up the room too. A 1968 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI Limousine—one of just 374 made during its debut production year—fetched £57,375, comfortably exceeding its estimate. The 1961 Jaguar MkII with a ‘Fast Road’ upgrade sold for £60,188, well above its lower estimate, boasting an impressive history file complete with 700 restoration photos.

An immaculate 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 raced to a final hammer price of £43,312, beating estimates by over £13,300. Meanwhile, a high-spec 2000 Rolls-Royce Corniche V Convertible delighted buyers at £68,625, surpassing its estimate by £8,625.

Classic muscle made its presence felt too, including a 1966 Ford Mustang V8 SVT ‘Notchback’ at £32,062, a 1973 BMW E9 3.0 CSi at £55,125, and a 1973 Jensen Interceptor III at £29,812—all outperforming their respective estimates and proving their timeless appeal.

The crown jewel among automobilia was a lovingly restored Austin J40 Pedal Car, which hammered for £3,900, topping expectations by £900.

With its impressive debut at Kelham Hall, H&H Classics is gearing up for its next classic car auction at the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton. Collector interest is already rising, and the team invites all owners of classic, collector, and performance cars thinking of selling to get in touch.
