The opening day of practice for the 2026 Isle of Man TT has been cut short, after an incident on the exit of Parliament Square in Ramsey brought out the red flag during the third of the day’s untimed practice sessions.
A lengthy delay followed the incident, and just before 4pm it was announced that there would be no further track action.
Practice got underway on schedule, with opening practice in the Supersport and Supertwin class on Monday morning passing without incident. The same was true for the following Sidecar session.
However, a red flag during the Superbike and Superstock session brought a halt to proceedings around 1pm, following ‘the implementation of serious incident protocols’ after the incident in Ramsey.
“Following the earlier Red Flag incident,” TT organisers said in a brief statement at 4pm, “the Clerk of the Course has confirmed that no further activity will take place on the Course today, as management of the incident continues. A further update will be issued in due course.”
There was originally supposed to be the first of the week’s timed qualifying sessions following the stopped Superbike session - so a change in the schedule might now follow.
The incident marks the second time in two years that the first day of TT action has been curtailed, with wet weather causing last year’s opening sessions to be cancelled after only the controlled-speed newcomers' lap was completed.
