Bosses at MG Repair Centre in Wolverhampton say they are ‘devastated’ after a pair of yobs smashed through a showroom window on Saturday (Jan 3) evening.
The duo made off with two red Honda scrambler bikes as well as a child’s Mini Moto bike, all of which had been in use in the business’s Christmas window display.
After forcing their way into the repair centre, the pair dragged the bikes outside before getting away in a Renault van with no number plates.
The owners were made aware of the incident by their alarm company but the thieves had already fled the scene by the time that police arrived.
The display had included two Grinch figures, which were sat on the scrambler bikes as part of a snowy festive scene.
The site has been putting on its Christmas showcases for the past six years but is now considering scrapping the tradition, following the break-in.
To make matters worse, the stolen bikes were only recently given a full restoration, the Express and Star reports.
In a bid to track down the thieves, the business is now offering a £1,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
‘We just can’t believe that someone could do something like this.’ said Grace Hughes, whose family run the site.
‘The bikes are our pride and joy in the family. We ride them for fun in our spare time.
‘My dad finished restoring them down to the nuts an bolts in the summer. We tend to use them in the displays in the winter months.
‘The cost of the replacing the reinforced glass and the bikes would be about £10,000. My dad is putting up a £1,000 reward or information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved.’
Car Dealer has approached Staffordshire Police for comment and anyone with any information is being encouraged to call 101.
