Drivers could pay around £4 more per tank from next week if Chancellor Rachel Reeves ends the fuel duty freeze.
Drivers across the UK could face a fresh rise in petrol prices next week as Labour Chancellor Rachel Reeves prepares to deliver her first Autumn Budget on 26 November 2025. Industry experts warn that pump prices may jump to 142p per litre if Ms Reeves ends the long-running fuel duty freeze, a move that would add roughly £4 to the cost of filling a family car.
The fuel duty freeze has been in place since 2011, with an additional temporary 5p-per-litre cut introduced in 2022 to ease pressure during the cost-of-living crisis. If Ms Reeves reverses either measure, analysts say prices could surge back to levels not seen since before the pandemic or the Ukraine war.
