F1 tells the story of Sonny Hayes (played by Brad Pitt), a former Formula One driver from the 1990s whose promising career was cut short by a devastating crash. Years later, Sonny is a nomadic racer-for-hire when he is approached by his old friend and struggling team owner Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem).
