James May’s ride in the 1969 Ford Torino Convertible really shows what set American muscle cars and their V8 engines apart back in the late ’60s. Unlike the tight, nimble European cars of the time, the Torino feels big, cushy, and a little “sloppy” with steering that’s loose and relaxed. James likens it to “a piece of very old furniture” — not as a criticism, but because it has a laid-back and comfortable character all its own.
