Inside Japan's DREAM ‘JDM’ Garage
Shinji, a dedicated car enthusiast and busy medical professional, has built a unique automotive sanctuary in Japan known as Good Hills Speed Garage. His passion for cars—and more recently, bikes—has remained strong over the years, and his connection to Nakai-san and Rauh Welt Begriff (RWB) dates back to the early days of the brand. After owning several Porsche 964s, Shinji’s quest for more speed led him to acquire a rare Carrera RS-based wide-body RWB, believed to be the only RS-based RWB conversion created by Nakai-san.
Seven years ago, Shinji commissioned the same builder who constructed Nakai’s original workshop to create his own garage beside his home. Since then, the space has evolved, filled with new cars, a Nojireal-painted AE86, and a lifetime’s worth of automotive memorabilia and collectibles. The garage is a blend of function and comfort—a true man cave—with toolboxes, art, classic magazines, and model cars, many of which are Porsche-themed. The space even includes a lounge area for relaxing and watching automotive videos.
Shinji’s 964 RS RWB is the centerpiece, featuring a smooth fender job, a Promodet engine refresh, and lightweight modifications like RS door cards and custom gold-finished wheels. The car runs on Sheibata tires and is stripped out for weight savings, with a relocated battery and a lightweight hood. The garage also houses his AE86, repainted to match his first car, and a Ducati Monster SP, reflecting his growing interest in bikes.
The video tour includes a drive through the Chiba countryside, where Shinji shares stories about his cars and their builds. The 964 RS RWB stands as a time capsule, maintained in its original state and embodying the raw, track-focused spirit of early RWB creations before the brand expanded internationally. The AE86 features a 20-valve engine swap and HKS F-Con V Pro management, representing a more mature take on the classic Hachiroku.
