YANGWANG U9 Track Edition Smashes Global EV Top Speed Record at 472.41 km/h
YANGWANG, the high-end sub-brand of BYD, has raised the bar for electric supercars by setting a new global EV top speed record of 472.41 km/h. The milestone was achieved on August 8, 2025, at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track in Germany. This makes the YANGWANG U9 Track Edition officially the fastest electric vehicle on the planet.

The U9 Track Edition is built on the same e4 Platform and DiSus-X core technical architecture as the regular YANGWANG U9 currently available in China. However, it adds the world’s first mass-produced 1200V ultra-high-voltage platform. Alongside a thermal-management system optimised for extreme conditions, these upgrades push the car’s performance to levels never seen before.

Setting a speed record requires more than just raw power; it demands stability and precision at high velocity. The e4 Platform uses a quad-motor setup, each motor spinning at 30,000 rpm and delivering 555kW of power. With a total system output exceeding 3,000PS, the U9 Track Edition boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217PS per tonne. That puts it among the elite in global automotive performance.

The platform’s independent torque-vectoring system monitors road conditions over 100 times per second. It adjusts torque to each wheel, maintaining perfect control over body posture even at top speeds. Grip never falters, and there’s no wheel slip or traction loss.

The DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System further enhances stability. It independently adjusts the suspension at all four corners of the car during aggressive acceleration, cornering, or when driving over uneven surfaces. This system suppresses pitch and roll, improving driver confidence and comfort. It also optimises the tyre contact patch to maximise grip. Together with the e4 Platform, these technologies guarantee remarkable safety and stability.

Unlike traditional supercars, the YANGWANG U9 uses this combined “e4 Platform + DiSus-X” system to introduce body posture control on the racetrack. This approach pushes the limits of what a track-capable supercar can achieve, keeping drivers safer and more connected to the car. The Track Edition keeps the same aerodynamic design as the street-legal U9 but adds an optional carbon-fiber front splitter. This splitter is in full production, proving its reliability at ultra-high speeds.

Tyres are also a vital part of this record attempt. YANGWANG worked closely with Giti Tire—using data from rigorous German testing in 2024—to develop a semi-slick track tyre. These tyres feature a specially formulated compound and unique tread design. At the wheel-rim interface, a knurling treatment combined with a high-viscosity lubricant reduces slippage during hard accelerating or braking. This lowers torque loss, reduces wear, and improves handling predictability.

German pro driver Marc Basseng, who also set a previous global EV record in 2024, was behind the wheel for this run. After the record, he said, “Last year, I thought I’d peaked. I never expected to break my own record so soon—but here we are, at the same track, with new technologies that have made it possible.”

With this achievement, YANGWANG has redefined the electric supercar. Backed by BYD’s strong innovation and sustainability goals, the brand pushes the boundaries of performance, safety, and driver experience. The U9 Track Edition proves that speed, control, and sustainability can coexist at the highest level.
