Yamaha is set to unveil the MOTOROiD:Λ (pronounced “Lambda”) at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo, presenting a groundbreaking leap in electric motorcycle technology. Building on the 2023 MOTOROiD2 project, this new concept is a self-balancing electric bike equipped with advanced AI that allows it to autonomously adjust balance, speed, braking, and even learn from the rider’s habits over time.

What sets MOTOROiD:Λ apart is its unique design: the bike features an arched, open-frame structure physically connecting the front and rear sections. This architecture enables the rear half to twist sideways up to 180 degrees while in motion or stationary without requiring rider input providing unprecedented maneuverability. After swiveling, the bike seamlessly returns to its original position by itself.

The motorcycle’s AI system continuously reads environmental data including tilt angle, speed, and road conditions and makes real-time corrections via its sophisticated motion-control algorithms and sensor array. An ultra-lightweight yet durable exoskeleton frame and hub motors near each wheel combine strength with precise control and responsiveness.

Beyond MOTOROiD:Λ, Yamaha’s Tokyo booth will showcase a suite of visionary electric and hybrid mobility prototypes: the Tricera three-wheel autocycle with all-wheel steering; PROTO BEV electric bike with a novel battery system; hybrid motorcycles PROTO HEV and PROTO PHEV; and electric wheelchairs like NACTUS VS TRE-X designed for off-road use.

With MOTOROiD:Λ, Yamaha pushes the envelope of what motorcycles can be, hinting at a future where bikes smartly assist riders, adapt dynamically, and redefine agility on two wheels. The Japan Mobility Show running from October 29 to November 9 promises to be the stage for these exciting innovations.
