Wheeler Dealers presenter Mike Brewer has admitted to a number plate “mix-up” after viewers unearthed a filming mistake in his latest TV series. The host of the classic car restoration series is currently starring in a new show, Mike Brewer: Born Dealer.
The series focuses on Mike's life away from filming Wheeler Dealers with a behind-the-scenes look at his One Automotive dealership in Leamington Spa. In the latest episode, Mike takes on the challenge of swapping a classic Citroen for a more upmarket Jaguar F-Type. However, viewers spotted a slight glitch with the car’s number plates appearing to switch halfway through the show.
X user @_stevengrady said: “Just watched and enjoyed episode 2 but was really interested in the F-Type as I have one, why was there two different number plates on it (and they were not trade plates), did you film with 2 different cars?
Mike quickly responded to viewers who had noticed the issue, suggesting the mistake was simply an editing glitch.
Mike replied: “Bloody editors. Same car, but we filmed it after James put a private plate on it so the two got mixed up.”
In the episode, Mike helps his friend and business partner James sell his Citroen DS Palace to help fund the purchase of an F-Type Jaguar. Putting the car up for auction at Birmingham Restoration Show, Mike managed to secure a staggering £16,000 for the model.
Mike said: “£16,000. That’s four grand over the reserve and almost half the cost of James’ Jaguar F-Type covered. Reputation intact... That alleviates the dents that he's out into his mid-life crisis, buying himself an F-Type. £16,000 return for the car is a really good figure. That’s better than I would have hoped for. Delighted.
Mike has put together the new series between filming a new series of Wheeler Dealers with new shows set to land later this year.
Production is already underway on a second series of Wheeler Dealers: World Tour, with Mike already spotted jetting across the globe with his production crews. Earlier this month, Mike posted on social media site X that he and Wheeler Dealers' crew were on a boat in the Bosphorus as filming continued in Turkiye.
