The Citroen Ami is the most affordable way motorists can make the switch from petrol to electric vehicles, with models priced at just over £7,000 brand new. This bargain price is around half the price of some of the budget EVs on the road such as the Dacia Spring, which retails for under £15,000.
On launch, buyers were able to pick up for just £19.99 per month on a 24-month Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) deal. Despite its size, the Ami is a 100% electric motor and could become ideal for those looking for an affordable and stylish city centre runaround. The ultra-compact electric model measures 2.41 meters in length, 1.39 metres wide and 1.52 metres tall.

The model comes in several configurations with buyers able to select between the ‘Ami’, ‘Ami Pop’, ‘Ami Vibe’ and ‘My Ami Cargo’. Although its small size makes the Ami perfect to navigate and park, this is by no means a powerful car.
The Ami is installed with a 6kw motor with top speeds of just 28 mph in around 10 seconds. The Ami isn’t built for long distances, with the model only capable of 47 miles on a single charge.
Not surprisingly, storage and passenger space is also fairly limited inside the cabin. After test driving the model, WhatCar? explained the Ami only has space for one passenger with the two seats slightly offset.
However, they explained that luggage space was “limited to a small cavern behind the seats”. There is a small space in front of the passenger for some extra bags and there are some storage cubbies located in the doors.
The model could prove popular among youngsters due to the Ami’s classification as a quadricycle. This means that the Ami is not legally considered a proper car and therefore follows different rules than a traditional motor.
The rule means those with a valid moped licence can get behind the wheel, ensuring those too young to hold a full driving licence can legally use one. In the UK, the Ami can be driven by someone at least 16 years old, as long as they hold a full moped licence.
