That wasn’t a bad week to join Club DirtFish as a columnist…

I’ve been asked a few times what it was like to be in the command center as Rally Estonia was rolling on and Oliver [Solberg] and Elliott [Edmondson] were getting closer and closer to winning. In all honesty, the process is the same for the team. We have a plan and if things don’t go to plan, we have a process.

Last week, things very much went to plan for Oliver. Does that mean we were always confident of him leading and winning? No. But maybe the performance from Friday wasn’t so surprising.

There was some chatter about how Oliver’s car differed from the way those other drivers were running their GR Yaris Rally1s. The benefit we had with Oliver’s car was that it was entered separately, so it wasn’t linked to any other chassis. He was able to take the set-up he wanted from a wider range of parts than, for example, Elfyn, whose car is obviously linked to Finland moving forwards.
