Top mechanic reveals ‘best used car’ on road with models under £8,000
A leading car mechanic has suggested that an iconic Japanese model could be the perfect second-hand used car.

A top mechanic has revealed the best-used car motorists can buy, with a second-hand Toyota at the top of the list. Scotty Kilmer said a used Toyota Corolla was his top pick, and the expert praised the vehicle for its driveability, fuel economy, and safety.

The leading mechanic also said the model was spacious and that many of the newer models had decent interiors. Mr Kilmer said the Corolla may be perfect as a “first car for a teenager” but anyone can take advantage of the tip and snap one up. Scotty issued the tip on his YouTube channel where he provides almost daily advice to road users.

Scotty said: "They sold millions of them so there’s plenty of good used ones out there, you don’t have to buy a new one.

“If it's raining this front wheel drive is great in the rain and the snow. They've got a lot of room and they've really come up in quality on their interior, they are nice looking.

“They’re zippy enough but they are below on gas. This owner used to have a Toyota Yaris, a much smaller car, this gets better gas mileage.

"And if you're worried about safety, it's got airbags all over the place, they are very safe cars. Plus they’re a smaller four-door car a lot cheaper to insure.

“So you’re looking for a first car for a teenager, you can’t beat a Toyota Corolla.”

The cost of obtaining a second-hand Toyota Corolla model can massively vary with some vehicles on sale for over £35,000.

However, there are some older examples available for under £8,000 through online marketplaces with some even dropping below £5,000.

Motorists were quick to praise the Corolla on YouTube as they reacted positively to Scotty’s suggestion.

@Feelyput wrote: “My uncle bought an 2002 Corolla brand new and managed to put over 500,000 miles on it.”

@anijp9275 commented: “Corolla are the best in small car I was super impressed with the new one.”

@Tangosuckaa1 added: “Corolla was my 1st car 10 years ago. It’s still on the road according to the DVLA. Bulletproof.”

Another road user added: “I have a 2007 Corolla…no problems no issues ever.”
