  • Inkas’ Defender Octa Edition One promises to survive rifle fire and grenade blasts.
  • Military-grade armor, runflat tires, and fuel tank protection keep occupants secure.
  • Optional kit adds oxygen filtration, night vision, strobes, and even an escape hatch.

The Land Rover Defender Octa has stood out as one of the most capable and intimidating SUVs on the market, blending rugged presence and abilities with a brawny V8 soundtrack. Does that make it a candidate for an armored machine? Well, probably not. But we guess if you’re already behind the wheel of something that looks capable of flattening a small village, fitting it to withstand rifle fire and the occasional grenade blast is simply leaning into the image.

That challenge was taken up by Toronto-based Inkas, which has reimagined the Octa as an armored fortress. The result is the 2025 Armored Defender Octa Edition One, certified to BR6 protection standards. In real-world terms, that means it can resist sustained fire from a 7.62 mm assault rifle and absorb the blast of up to two DM51 hand grenades without losing its composure.

Armor in the Details

From a distance, the armored Defender Octa looks almost identical to the standard model. A closer inspection reveals steel armor add-ons under the side skirts with Inkas branding, part of the company’s 360-degree ballistic protection covering the cabin, roof, and floor.

The SUV also gets multi-layer ballistic glass on all windows, reinforced hinges, and overlapping armored door seams designed to eliminate weak points where bullets could otherwise penetrate. A strengthened casing protects the fuel tank, while special runflat wheels with polycarbonate inserts ensure the Defender remains mobile even after tire punctures.

Inside, Inkas leaves the cabin largely untouched, retaining the forged carbon-fiber trim and tech features of the Octa trim. Optional goodies include an oxygen filtration system, a door assist mechanism, extra cameras, night vision, LED strobe lights, a siren, an intercom, and a roof escape hatch.

The most powerful version of the Defender is fitted with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 generating 626 hp (467 kW / 635 PS) and 553 lb-ft (749 Nm) of torque. The standard model completes the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in an impressive 3.8 seconds, although the armored version will be a bit slower due to the extra weight.

It’ll Likely Cost You A Pretty Penny

The Inkas Armored Defender Octa Edition One is available to order at an undisclosed price. Of course, owners can choose the level of armoring that suits their needs, or apply the same treatment to other variants of the SUV. For reference, a standard Octa starts at $158,300 in the US, while the dark-themed Octa Black begins at $168,700. Add the ballistic extras, though, and it is safe to assume the final bill will land well north of that.
