British manufacturer Rolls-Royce has built the world’s most expensive car with the £23million model dubbed a “masterpiece”. The Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail model is fitted around an elegant roadster body type, with a dramatic two-seat interior, differing from Rolls-Royce's traditional four-seat design.

Rolls-Royce described the petrol model as a daring and dramatic coachbuilt masterpiece which represents luxury of the very highest order. The model is ultra rare, with only four models to be made and each a completely bespoke one-off commission.

The unique commission was created by clients in 2023, with the extraordinary vehicle presented to buyers who commissioned the design at a private event at Pebble Beach in California. The Rolls-Royce is even a convertible, with motorists able to pull the roof down or enjoy the model as an exhilarating coupé.

The vehicle is equipped with elegant bodywork, with its dark pomegranate design appearing almost almost black in shade. However, in direct light the model radiates a red shimmer on the dark surface, making it stand out on the road. The Droptail is also fitted with stunning grille vanes, hand-polished stainless-steel ingots and striking alloy wheels.

Alex Innes, Head of Coachbuild design at Rolls-Royce said: “Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail is glamour distilled. The guiding inspiration for this dark, bold and powerful commission was the Black Baccara rose, which was a significant point of affection for the client and a source of fascination for the design team.

“Its rich and complex character informed our creative exploration, influencing the palette, composition, and intricate detailing of the motor car. It led us to blend radically modern design concepts with age-old exquisite craft techniques.”

The two-seater certainly packs some performance, with the model equipped with a 6.75L twin-turbo V12 engine. The car can produce around 600hp, hitting 0-62mph in under five seconds with a top speed of around 155mph.

The ultra-exclusive model means the vehicle has an eye-watering price tag of around $30 million, approximately £23 million. After launching the model in the summer of 2023, Anders Warming, Design Director of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, stressed the model showed Rolls-Royce Coachbuild was one of the leading creative forces in the motoring scene.

Anders explained: “Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail stands as one of the most progressive expressions of Rolls-Royce Coachbuild ever conceived. In capturing the romantic and glamorous spirit of the commissioning clients, our design team explored bold new artisanal processes and highly complex creative gestures in their pursuit of a deeply personal language of luxury.

“The remarkable execution of the wood elements of La Rose Noire Droptail in particular are a clear statement that time-honoured exquisite crafts have a place at the pinnacle of modern design.”
