The New BMW M5 Could Look Something Like This
The new BMW M5 will arrive in 2027 with revised styling and, once again, with the V8 under the hood. This is what the high-performance sedan could look like.

The current-generation BMW M5 has been around for a couple of years, putting its 717-horsepower hybrid powertrain to work. It’s a supercar disguised as a sedan (or wagon) that will receive a facelift for the 2027 model year. This won’t just be a light touch-up, though.

As seen in the spy video published on Carspotter Jeroen's YouTube channel, the new BMW M5—spotted testing at the Nürburgring—will differ substantially from the current model, adopting the brand’s new design direction seen on the latest iX3 and i3.

Neue Klasse Influence

The first change appears up front, where the new BMW M5 clearly resembles the new i3: a horizontally oriented twin-kidney grille that integrates the lighting elements, just as previewed in our render. That’s not a typical move for a facelift, but as noted, the 2027 BMW M5 will be markedly different from today’s version. The same goes for the rear, where you can make out two pairs of outboard exhaust tips.

The cabin of the new BMW isn’t shown in the video. According to reports, however, there will be a major overhaul there as well, with the adoption of Panoramic Vision—the new dashboard layout seen on the iX3 and i3—which features a large central display and a long, slim screen positioned just below the windshield.

V8 Stays In Place

The 2027 BMW M5 spy footage leaves little doubt: under the hood will once again be a 4.4-liter V8, paired with an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. In the current generation, that setup produces 717 hp and 738 pound-feet of torque, figures that could rise on the new M5—along with its electric-only range (currently 42 miles), thanks to the adoption of higher-capacity batteries.
