Rain on the event could cause all sorts of problems, details local driver Fabrizio Zaldivar

When it rains, it pours.
That’s often meant in a metaphorical sense when it comes to rallying. In Paraguay, it could be literal.
Going to a brand new round of the World Rally Championship creates a world of mystery: what are the roads like? How about the conditions? How bad will road sweeping be?
Luckily for us, Fabrizio Zaldivar went into great detail on what we can expect from the first ever edition of Rally Paraguay on the world stage over on Club DirtFish. There’s plenty of great insights on offer. But there was also one warning.
Asking Zaldivar if we should be expecting rain next week, he told DirtFish: “I hope not.”
The reason why is obvious once you’ve seen snapshots of rain on Rally Trans Itapúa, the rally on which Paraguay’s national event is heavily based, in such conditions.
“The weather forecast is showing we can get some rain but I hope we don’t get rain because when it rains here, it’s proper rain, Kenya style,” said Zaldivar.
“The road conditions here when it rains is total chaos. It will be a proper disaster and the show would be over; it would not be good for the organizers, the drivers or the fans.
“I’m crossing my fingers for rain to stay away.”
At time of publishing that’s true for most of the rally – but not for Sunday. For now it’s only a light amount of rain forecast. Based on Zaldivar’s prediction, let’s hope it stays that way.
