Introducing the Skoda Enyaq iV Coupe: Style, Space, and Electric Power

The Skoda Enyaq iV has been making waves in the electric SUV market, capturing the attention of car enthusiasts with its sleek design and impressive performance. As part of Skoda's foray into the electric vehicle segment, the Enyaq has become a major success story for the brand. In fact, its popularity, coupled with the launch of the Enyaq iV Coupe, contributed to Skoda's rise as the sixth most popular brand in Europe in 2022, with a combined 51,000 sales.

The focus of our review today is the Skoda Enyaq iV Coupe, available in four trims and equipped with Skoda's largest battery, providing a competitive range of 345 miles on a single charge. Starting at £44,825, the Enyaq iV Coupe offers a stylish and affordable option for families in search of an electric family car. Its competitors include the Volvo C40 Recharge, Volkswagen ID 5, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5, each with its unique features and appeal.

In this review, we'll be examining the Suite-trim Coupe, which offers additional premium features for an extra £1380 compared to the standard Loft trim. The upgrade includes soft black leather accents across the dashboard, doors, and seats, elevating the interior's overall look and feel. However, it's worth noting that the lack of electric seats at this price point may seem unusual and somewhat disappointing.

Our test car comes with Race Blue metallic paint (£660) and the Clever package (£2755), which adds keyless entry, adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, and various other tech features. With a total price of £49,620, the Enyaq iV Coupe may not be cheap, but it offers excellent value considering the advantages of electric family driving.

One of the standout features of the Enyaq iV Coupe is its spaciousness. With a length of 4653mm and a width of 1879mm, the car offers ample legroom for both front and rear passengers. Two six-foot adults can comfortably sit in the front, with enough space for two additional adults in the back. While three passengers in the backseat might be a bit of a squeeze, it's still manageable. Headroom is generous, despite the coupe-like roofline.

Another family-friendly aspect of the Enyaq iV Coupe is its storage capacity. The car provides large door pockets and an impressive 570 litres of boot space, surpassing the Volvo C40's 413 litres. With the seats folded down, the available space expands to approximately 1700 litres, offering plenty of room for luggage, groceries, or other items. Notably, the Enyaq iV Coupe comes with a unique feature—an umbrella that sits inside the door, ready for use during rainy days.

The infotainment system in the Enyaq iV Coupe follows Skoda's distinctive style, which shares similarities with other Volkswagen Group brands. While certain aspects of the system may seem quirky, such as browsing settings by rotating a car image or adjusting the volume with a touch-sensitive slider, overall usability is relatively straightforward, especially while driving.

On the road, the Enyaq iV Coupe delivers a pleasant driving experience. Despite its size, the car's nimble steering makes maneuvering easier than expected. The car offers a good amount of feedback, enhancing the driver's connection with the road. During our test, the car's range aligned with Skoda's claim, instilling confidence in its capabilities. With 201bhp from a single rear-axle-mounted motor, the Enyaq iV Coupe provides adequate power for a family car. Its 8.5-second 0-62mph time encourages a more conservative driving style, allowing for efficient use of the electric range. Additionally, the car features a superb regenerative braking system, enabling one-pedal driving and maximizing energy recuperation.

While the Enyaq iV Coupe boasts many positive aspects, it's important to address a few downsides. One notable drawback is the car's firmer ride compared to its Swedish counterpart. Potholes require careful attention, as they can disrupt the overall comfort. The car also exhibits some body roll, which is to be expected given its size, but the lack of seat support, particularly in the shoulders, is worth mentioning. Additionally, we encountered difficulty turning off the auto-hold feature, resulting in multiple attempts to reverse off an inclined driveway.

Overall, the Skoda Enyaq iV Coupe leaves a lasting impression as a practical and comfortable everyday family SUV. It offers ample range for daily commutes and family trips, along with a spacious interior and competitive storage capacity. Priced competitively against its luxury counterparts like the Land Rover Discovery Sport, the Enyaq iV Coupe provides a future-proof option with its electric powertrain. When charged at home, it offers significant cost savings over time compared to petrol and diesel alternatives.

In the ever-evolving landscape of electric vehicles, the Skoda Enyaq iV Coupe stands out as a reliable and versatile choice for families looking to embrace the electric future without compromising on space, style, or performance.
