  • Ram is going Raptor hunting with the 2027 1500 SRT TRX.
  • It sports a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 777 hp and 680 lb-ft.
  • Pricing starts at $99,995, undercutting the Raptor R by $10,935.

Dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago, but the T-Rex is roaring back to life and it’s hungry for Raptor blood. That much was clear when we got an early look at the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX.

This new model marks the official return of the SRT brand and becomes the first truck to wear the moniker since the 2006 Ram SRT-10. And it’s not just here for nostalgia. Ram is positioning the latest TRX as the “most powerful production street-legal gas half-ton pickup ever.”

A New Supercharged 6.2-Liter V8

While fans would have been excited to see the previous supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 return, Ram didn’t settle for yesterday’s news. Quite the opposite as they’ve developed a new version of the engine, which produces 777 hp (579 kW / 788 PS) and 680 lb-ft (921 Nm) of torque.

That’s 75 hp (56 kW / 76 PS) and 30 lb-ft (41 Nm) more than the 2024 TRX Final Edition. It also one ups the F-150 Raptor R, which has a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 with 720 hp (537 kW / 730 PS) and 640 lb-ft (867 Nm) of torque.

Speaking at a media event in Detroit last month, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis told us they could have brought the TRX back sooner if they simply kept the old engine. However, they wanted to push things even further, so they developed a new version that offers significantly better performance. The executive went on to state this isn’t a “tune,” but a substantial upgrade.

The company didn’t go into many specifics, but the engine has been equipped with a 2.4-liter twin-screw supercharger and a dual-path induction system. The latter “draws cool outside air through the side of the grille opening and the center-mounted hood scoop.” These air flows meet at a radial filter, which ensures maximum air volume, performance, and longevity.

The engine is connected to an “uprated” eight-speed automatic transmission, which offers full manual control. It’s backed up by a full-time active transfer case with 4WD Auto, 4WD High, and 4WD Low settings. Owners will also find six drive modes including Auto, Sport, Snow, Tow, Mud, and Baja.

Needless to say, the TRX hauls more than just cargo as it rockets from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds. If drivers keep their foot planted, the truck will eventually hit a best-in-class top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h).

Designed To Standout

One look at the TRX tells you it means business and the truck is notable for having a unique grille with SRT badging as well as a Flame Red “RAM” logo with a flow-through design. It’s accompanied by a sport performance hood with LED clearance marker lights and LED headlights with Satin Black bezels.

Further below, the truck has a steel front bumper with an integrated skid plate. They’re joined by Flame Red tow hooks and sweptback fog lights.

While the design is instantly recognizable, the TRX is 6.8 inches wider (173 mm) than the regular pickup. This is largely due to bulging fenders and composite fender flares.

Customers can spruce things up with optional hood and bedside TRX graphics. They can also opt for rock rails and powder-coated aluminum running boards from Mopar.

The rear end is relatively plain, but it sports a steel bumper and darkened LED taillights with Satin Black bezels. A closer inspection reveals Flame Red tow hooks, a T-Rex logo on the tailgate, and a sport-tuned dual exhaust system with black 5-inch (127 mm) tips.

Made For Adventure

The upgrades aren’t just skin deep as the TRX sports an off-road focused suspension with forged aluminum control arms, special spring rates, and Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks. They’re joined by electronic locking front and rear differentials that can be activated by a button on the dashboard.

On top of that, the truck rides on Satin Black 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch tires. They help to give the model 11.8 inches (300 mm) of ground clearance.

Speaking of capability, the TRX boasts 13 inches (330 mm) of front suspension travel and 14 inches (356 mm) out back. Drivers will also find approach, departure, and breakover angles of 31.0, 25.2, and 16.8 degrees.

A Sporty And Luxurious Interior

The sporty styling continues in the cabin, which features black Natura Plus leather seats with perforated suede inserts. The front seats have 12-way power adjustment as well as heating, ventilation and massage functions. Other highlights include red bolster accents, red TRX embroidery on the backrest, and exclusive Ruby Red seatbelts.

Elsewhere, there’s real carbon fiber trim, a suede headliner, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red contrast stitching. Buyers will also find the console-mounted shifter and multifunction switch bank from the RHO.

Putting special touches aside, the truck comes nicely equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system that is five times faster than the previous setup. They’re joined by a 10-inch head up display, a dual wireless smartphone charger, and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Rounding out the highlights are a dual-pane sunroof as well as rear seats with heating and ventilation.

Speaking of equipment, the TRX comes standard with Hands-Free Active Drive Assist. The company is pretty proud of the Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving system and noted they’re the only automaker to offer hands-free capability in a high-performance, gas-powered pickup designed to go off-roading.
