Sébastien Ogier will complete all of the remaining rounds of the World Rally Championship, so long as he still has a chance to win the title.
After finishing third at Rally Finland, the eight-time champion is just 13 points adrift of his championship-leading team-mate Elfyn Evans, despite missing rallies in Sweden, Kenya and Estonia.
Last year, Ogier initially intended to do around half of the season before increasing his commitment when he found himself in championship contention.
Ogier hasn’t finished off the podium in six starts this year, so again has found himself in a strong championship position.
He’ll therefore enter at least the following four events in Paraguay, Chile, Central Europe and Japan, with only the Saudi Arabia season finale in doubt.
Ogier told DirtFish: “I used to say in the past [that] you won championships by scoring big points on weekends when you struggle.
Finland was Ogier's weakest result of the season - and he was still third!
“The championship wasn’t really, you know, the main target of the season but it became one. As everybody who asked me recently, and especially this week, there was no secret anymore that I would be starting the next rallies, so yeah.”
Asked to confirm if that meant he will enter all of the remaining rallies, Ogier added: “At least I will be on the next ones, yes. The ones who know me still know that there is one I’m not really excited for, but it’s not my main motivation to be there anymore fighting for championship, but when I’m being in this situation mid-season, so close, by having started three rallies less, it was not expected.
“And now, I have no regret that I don’t really start the season fighting for championships anymore because the time I have at home I really enjoy so much and I think that’s priceless. But being mid-season so close and knowing that I might have to add two rallies to have a chance to compete for another title, I’m still a competitor so this one I still want to try.”
