Mustang shoppers already have several excellent trims to choose from—from the base EcoBoost model and powerful GT to the extreme GTD. Now the Dark Horse SC joins the lineup, featuring aggressive bodywork and a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 producing 815 horsepower. Getting behind the wheel of one, though, won't be cheap.
Ford sent an email to Motor1 confirming pricing details for the Dark Horse SC. The base model starts at $103,490 before gas guzzler and destination fees come into play. Even the base model, though, nets you a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 making well over 700 hp.
Move up to the Track Pack, and that will set you back $139,990. The Track Pack adds Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R tires, and even more aerodynamic upgrades that Ford says were developed alongside the Mustang GTD and GT4 race car.
At the top of the lineup is the Track Pack Special Edition, which costs $170,970. The top-tier Dark Horse SC gets exclusive painted hood graphics, a unique Solar Red upholstery, and the Carbon Fiber Appearance package. All versions pack the same supercharged V8 and Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Sure, those numbers sound pretty steep. But it’s really not all bad when looking at the competition.
The most obvious comparison to the Dark Horse SC is the Chevrolet Corvette—specifically the Z06. The Z06 starts at $122,795, while the ZR1 starts at $187,495; both prices include fees. That means a Dark Horse SC with the Track Pack costs more than a new Z06—but it does have over 700 horsepower compared to the Z06’s 670, at least.
Compared to Porsche’s lineup, the Dark Horse SC is more evenly competitive. A track-focused 911 quickly climbs in price; the 911 GTS now starts at around $181,000, while a Turbo S approaches $270,000.
You could also compare it to the previous Shelby GT500, which debuted in 2020 with a starting price around $77,000—roughly $97,000 when adjusted for inflation. By that measure, the Dark Horse SC isn’t dramatically more expensive.
Motor1's Take: The Dark Horse SC is certainly on the pricier side for a Mustang, particularly in Track Pack or Special Edition form. But considering its 700-plus-hp supercharged V8—and how it stacks up against rivals like the Corvette Z06 and the previous GT500—the price isn't as outrageous as it first seems.
