  • Modellista teased a minivan concept and SUV prototype for Tokyo.
  • The minivan appears to be based on the Toyota Alphard model.
  • Both previews hint at future production and styling direction.

Modern minivans have come a long way from their utilitarian roots, especially in markets like China and Japan where design, technology, and comfort have become key priorities. Modellista, Toyota’s tuning arm, is leaning into that momentum with a new concept headed for the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026.

The Japanese customization house has released a single teaser image, revealing a sharply drawn lighting setup that brings to mind a bit of Tron flair, stretching all the way into the front bumper. Based on the visible roofline, hood profile, and daytime running lights, it’s likely that this unnamed model takes its base from the latest Toyota Alphard.

What’s Under the Glow

Modellista says the minivan draws inspiration from the Embryo concept shown at last year’s event, and aims to deliver “functions that appeal to the five senses.” Visually, it sports a sculpted front end, a more angular splitter, and side skirts that might feature integrated lighting, though that detail remains unconfirmed.

According to the tuner, this is meant to be a “flagship image leader” with its sights set on future production. While Modellista already offers full styling kits for the latest Alphard and its sibling, the Vellfire, this could mark the beginning of an even more ambitious customization tier.

A Lexus Joins the Lineup

It won’t be alone on the stage, either. Modellista plans to unveil a “prototype model” that’s expected to hit the market soon. This one appears to be based on the Lexus RX SUV and wears a bodykit shaped by the brand’s “Geometrical organic” design language.

Both the concept Toyota minivan and the prototype SUV will be formally introduced during Modellista’s press event at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo on January 9.

The company will also showcase and sell products from the “Modellista Collection”, including in-car fragrances (Urban Oasis, Grace, and Nomad scents), the Modekuma-kun keychain teddy bear, cleaning towels, a snap button belt keychain, pins, and stickers.

Visitors who complete an on-site survey will receive a complimentary tote bag. Those who follow Modellista’s Instagram account can also claim a license plate-style branded keychain.
