A leading car mechanic has revealed the three most reliable SUV machines with Range Rover not in sight. Experts at OlyAutos explained that models from Volkswagen, Toyota and Nissan made up their top three picks.
He also admitted that SUVs from Japanese manufacturers had “taken over” the segment in a blow to more traditional brands. Walid, a spokesperson for Oly Autos, a car repair and MOT centre in South London, revealed the three best selections for those craving reliability.

Speaking on TikTok, Walid said: "Probably my personal favourite, Number one would definitely be a VW Tiguan. Great, great cars, proper SUV.”
WhatCar? has claimed that although the Tiguan is “reliable” but wasn’t the highest scoring model on their Reliability Survey. The petrol Tiguan has a reliability score of 91.9%, with the diesel slightly lower at 88.1%.
The experts claimed the Tiguan is more reliable than some models in the sector such as the Cupra Formentor. However, they suggested that models such as the BMW X1 and the 2014-2021 Lexus NX may be better.
Walid added: “Number two I would go for a Toyota RAV4, very reliable, can't go wrong. And number three, Nissan X-Trail, a great car, all solid, comfortable drives, its perfect man.
“And when it comes to SUVs I believe the Japanese market has probably taken over with Nissan and Toyota and stuff. But, those would be my three options.”

The RAV4 has previously been praised by motoring experts, including top mechanic Scotty Kilmer. He suggested some RAV4 owners could run their cars for over 500,000 miles as he has “never seen one break”.
According to WhatCar?, the X-Trail may be a bit of a mixed bag with the experts claiming that some owners had been reporting “minor issues”.
WhatCar? said: “What Car? readers have also given their verdict on the Nissan X-Trail. Generally, there's a mixed level of reliability, with many owners experiencing trouble-free ownership and others plenty of trouble.”
However, despite being a market leader in the SUV space, Range Rover didn’t make the mechanics' top three most reliable picks. According to WhatCar? The Range Rover Sport scored 92.6% in their reliability survey, which was a better performance than previous designs.
