This weekend, NASCAR is heading to Charlotte Motor Speedway. Cup Series drivers will take the green flag in the famed Coca-Cola 600.

The 600-mile race is the longest race of the 2026 season. Due to illness, Kyle Busch, the driver of the No. 8 car will not take part in the race weekend.

The announcement was made on Thursday morning. Austin Hill has been selected as the reserve driver and will pilot the No. 8 for RCR.

Busch was also scheduled to race in Friday’s NASCAR Truck Series event.

Statement Regarding Kyle Busch from the Busch Family:

“Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization,” The statement opened via X.

“He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation.”

“Kyle Busch’s health is our upmost priority and he and his family have the full resources of RCR behind them,” the NASCAR team stated.

“Kyle is an integral part of our organization and we wish him a safe and speedy recovery. His No. 8 Chevrolet will be ready and waiting for him.”

“We’re thankful to Austin Hill for stepping in to drive the No. 8 Chevrolet this weekend. Please keep Kyle and the Busch family in your prayers, and help us respect the family’s privacy at this time.”

Earlier this month, Busch stated over the radio that he needed the medical staff after the race at Watkins Glen International.
