One of the leading car mechanics has revealed the best “cheap” second-hand used car on the market today. Scotty Kilmer, one of the most popular mechanics on YouTube, has claimed the Toyota Corolla was his number one pick for those on the lookout for a top second-hand motor.
He praised the Corolla for its standout features, including front-wheel drive, a "quality" interior and its strong safety record. Scotty suggested Corolla's also have good fuel efficiency and could be an ideal first car for those just getting on the roads. Scotty has been a big fan of Toyota’s, regularly praising the Japanese manufacturer as one of his favourites on the roads.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Scotty explained: “Number one, they sold millions of them so there’s plenty of good used ones out there, you don't have to buy a new one.,
“And if it’s raining like now, this front-wheel drive is great in the rain and the snow. They have a lot of room and they have really come up in quality in the interior, they’re nice looking,
“They are zippy enough, but they're light on gas. This owner used to have a Toyota Yaris, a much smaller car, this one gets better gas mileage. If you're proof about safety, it’s got airbags all over the place, they are very safe cars. Plus the smaller four-door car is a lot cheaper to insure. So you’re looking for a first car for a teenager, you can't beat a Toyota Corolla.”
The Toyota Corolla was first launched back in the 1960s, becoming one of the most popular cars on the road in Japan by the 1970s. The Corolla went on to become one of Toyota’s best-selling models both locally and internationally.
Toyota Corolla models vary in cost with prices depending on age, mileage and condition. YouTube viewers took to Scotty’s video, praising their own experiences with the Toyota Corolla.
One motorist said: “My uncle bought an 2002 Corolla brand new and managed to put over 500,000 miles on it.”
@TraceyS6309 explained: “Still have my 2004 Toyota Corolla S that I purchased new in 2003 and now has 285,000 miles. Having [her] repainted right now.”
@garyglosque added: “I bought a new Corolla back in 2007 , drove it every day for several years then gave it to my son and he had it for years without any problems.”
However, buyers should be able to secure older second-hand models for between £5,000 and £10,000. Some newer models, mainly low-mileage hybrids are a bit more pricey with cars nearer the £20,000 mark.
