A leading car mechanic has revealed four simple tips could “double” fuel mileage in a major boost for petrol and diesel owners. Top mechanic Scotty Kilmer explained that simple checks on tyre pressures and air filters could help slash fuel use. Likewise, changing driving habits and removing waste from a vehicle could also prove key in boosting efficiency.

The tips are pivotal to help petrol and diesel owners who could save on how much they put into their vehicles in 2025. Scotty issued the simple advice on his YouTube channel where he issues regular hints and tricks for road users to adopt.

Scotty said: “Today I'm going to show you how to get better gas mileage in your car.

“And it's not by using scam devices, don’t be fooled. I'm going to give you real things you can do.

“Make sure your tyre pressure are right. If it's wrong your tyre will have too much friction, worse gas mileage.

“Two, don't have a dirty air filter, your car burns thousands of cubic feet of air, you can’t stop that flow.

“Be a moderate driver, realise the faster your engine spins, the more fuel it’s using up.

“And keep your car uncluttered, on the inside and in the trunk because the less weight you carry the better the gas mileage.

“So if you want better gas mileage, don’t use the scam gadgets, use the tips I just showed you.”

Underneath the video, Scotty claimed his advice would "double gas mileage” in a major boost to road users.

Motorists quickly took to YouTube to praise Scotty’s advice with many already enjoying massive savings by adopting some of his hints.

@lorensims4846 posted: “Best tips I've heard all week. Sure I already know this but it's good to get a reminder now and then. I tend to haul around too much stuff in my trunk 'just in case.'”

@ronnienaron8389 remarked: “These are all good solid tips that Scotty gave. I’ve used them for years.”

@PeterDemerly wrote: “Love the Scotty tips. They make sense and work. So much is common sense.”

Another road user added: “Excellent tips. 55 - 60 everywhere, accelerate and decelerate gently, frequently check [tyres], water, oil, filters and any signs of other issues. 25+ mpg in an old diesel square body.”
