A top motoring mechanic has revealed some of the most reliable cars on the road, with one popular model selected as one of the top picks. South Korean manufacturer Kia was selected by the expert, the second mechanic to list the brand in a matter of weeks.

Kia was among the best performers with strong first-time pass rates and “few major mechanical repairs”. The iconic brand, known for models such as the Picanto, Ceed, and Niro, generally scores well in reliability surveys and is becoming a fan favourite among motorists.

Speaking exclusively to the Express, Andrew Jervis, CEO of ClickMechanic, stressed that Kia was among a series of cars that tended to “avoid serious defects”.

He said: "From feedback we've received from mechanics on our network, premium and well-engineered brands tend to perform best at MOT. Lexus, Kia, Hyundai and larger Honda models consistently deliver strong first-time pass rates and require fewer major mechanical repairs than average.

“They’re not immune to failures, but they tend to avoid the serious defects that force cars back in for immediate re-tests.”

The analysis comes just weeks after Wheeler Dealers star Mike Brewer also picked Kia and Hyundai as the two most reliable brands on UK roads.

Mike told the Express: "At the top of my list at the moment from my personal experience selling cars from One Automotive, when we are selling a Kia we never see them come back.

The host of the popular classic car TV series added: “I would say Kia. Kia, Hyundai, these new Chinese companies like BYD, they are really getting good reviews in terms of the cars they offer, their reliability and how they perform. All of the Asian, Japanese brands have always had that great reputation for reliability but then so have the German brands as well, there are still good cars out there.”

According to WhatCar? Kia has built up a strong reputation for dependability and reliability. Kia models are fully backed up by the brand’s comprehensive seven-year warranty giving peace of mind to owners.

WhatCar? added: “Overall, Kia has a very good reputation for reliability, with owners reporting that only 20% their cars had any issues in the previous two years. It's also one of the best brands for fixing faults for free: 91% of owners didn't have to contribute to the cost of repairing faults.”
