Bill Davis was the owner of Bill Davis Racing. The team opened in 1989

They went to victory lane in the 2002 Daytona 500 with Ward Burton behind the wheel. As a car owner, he collected a 5 race wins in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Drivers: Dave Blaney, Johnny Benson Jr., Ward Burton, Scott Wimmer, Michael Waltrip, Bobby Labonte, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Mike Skinner, Jacques Villeneuve, Bill Lester and Jeremy Mayfield.

The team was sold in 2008 to Triad Racing Technologies.

On Saturday evening, David passed away. He was 74 years old.

“Bill was more than a competitor — he was a friend to all in the garage, respected for his kindness, generosity, and genuine love for racing.”

The statement concluded, “NASCAR extends its deepest condolences to his wife and business partner Gail, the Davis family, and Bill’s many friends during this difficult time.”

Davis also entered cars in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He picked up 11 car owner wins, three of which came from Mark Martin and another three with Jeff Gordon.
