Motorists have been told to follow three simple rules on Friday as heavy rain looks set to hit the UK. The AA has called on drivers to reduce their speed, keep their distance from the cars ahead and avoid flooded roads while they are behind the wheel.
Failure to follow the rules could result in car damage, with vehicles at risk if exposed to severe weather conditions. The Met Office has issued weather warnings for rain on Friday as Storm Claudia looks set to batter the nation. East Wales, the Midlands and Eastern England could be the most affected with amber warnings in place.

The Met Office said there was a “good chance some communities will be cut off by flooded roads”. Shaun Jones, AA expert patrol has urged motorists to take several crucial precautions and to dodge heavily flooded routes.
Shaun said: “Safety comes first. Reduce your speed, keep your distance, and avoid flooded roads completely. Conditions may change quickly, so stay updated and make sure you’re prepared before you travel.
“Flood water can appear quickly, and even shallow water can be dangerous – never try to drive through it. Stay tuned to local traffic updates and adjust your speed to suit the conditions. If your car starts to aquaplane, ease off the accelerator gently to regain control.”
Rainwater can lead to a range of cosmetic issues, including possible damage to paint and bodywork. However, water seeping into a vehicle can lead to more serious issues, with electrical issues a major concern.

Alicia Hempsted, car insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket, has also encouraged drivers to think twice before attempting to drive through floodwater regardless of the circumstances.
She said: “Just six inches of water can be enough to cause serious engine damage. Even a small amount - about an egg cupful - can be sucked into the air intake, which is typically low on most vehicles and especially vulnerable during floods. If your car is damaged by floodwater, contact your insurer immediately.”
The Met Office also has a yellow weather warning in place for parts of Scotland until 7pm on Thursday. Another yellow weather warning is also in place for most of Southern and Eastern England on Saturday morning.
