A driving instructor has shared how you can avoid doing something "illegal" on your driving test to ensure you'll pass. Clear Start Driving shared a video from inside the car with a learner on a practice test, saying that a "simple tip" will help you get things right the first time.

"You've just failed your test," the instructor told the young woman who was taking her practice test. "Shut up, have I?" she asked, not believing him. "You've just gone over the stop line," he explained, which is an error that would cause you to fail. Her response was "Oh, f**** sake".

She then said: "In my defence, they need to paint it a bit better," saying that the reason she didn't see it was because it had faded over time.

Her instructor then asked: "Why do you think that most of the stop line was missing?"

"I don't know? People [have] been driving over it?" she asked.

He continued: "That's it. So it's just worn off through wear and tear of vehicles going over it. When you approach a traffic light, just look to the left or to the right to see if you can identify where the edges of the stop line are because they're unlikely to be worn as much as the middle".

He also explained that it might be visible in the middle and at the edges, so you should keep your eyes peeled for it as much as possible.

In the comments, some defended the young driver saying: "Come on, you can barely see it".

Another penned: "This one little thing really fails the whole test?"

The driving school responded: "It does indeed as you MUST stop at the line, not past the line. If you don’t stop you have broken a rule of the Highway Code (rule 175 and 176) making it illegal".

You need to stop at a stop line when driving because it is a legal requirement designed to keep everyone on the road safe.

The stop line marks the exact place where you must bring your vehicle to a complete halt. Stopping at the line ensures that you have a clear view of oncoming traffic and pedestrians, and it prevents your vehicle from entering or blocking areas where you could be putting other road users at risk.

If you fail to stop at the stop line during your driving test, it is considered a serious error because it shows that you are not following fundamental road rules and may not be aware of your surroundings or the importance of traffic laws.

This kind of mistake suggests to the examiner that you might be a danger to yourself and others on the road, which is why it can result in failing the test.

The rules are there to create predictable and safe behaviour for all drivers, so demonstrating that you understand and follow them is essential to passing your driving test.
