It's no secret that fogged-up windows slow down how quickly you can reach your destinations, but if ignored, they can also reduce your vision and the ability to spot hazards. But, there's one simple thing you can do to prevent it.

Halfords has urged people to get rid of one item that is usually taking up space in the back seat or the boot "as soon as possible", as it can contribute to condensation and mould. This is a great tip as winter approaches and rain and lower temperatures continue to be forecast for the UK. Surprisingly, removing umbrellas from your car reduces the chance for mould and moisture to build up on your car seat or carpets.

Also on the clean out your car list is wet clothes and shoes, these clothing items also add moisture and contribute to condensation forming on your car's windows. At the end of all journeys, drivers should try and remove any water and slush from inside their cars to prevent any water buildup.

Halfords stated: "Wet clothing, shoes, and umbrellas add moisture that leads to condensation. Ensure you remove wet items as soon as possible to prevent mould and moisture build-up in your interior. Removing any excess water and slush at the end of your journey also helps.

"Additionally, you can place a dehumidifier in the car to absorb moisture in the air. Helping prevent condensation buildup.

"Condensation can be worse if your car’s door and window seals aren’t fully intact. Make sure drains in doors and the boot aren’t blocked to allow water to escape rather than sit inside your car."
