Drivers have been advised to have their car ready by Tuesday with 17 specific items. The advice comes as the Met Office has issued several yellow weather warnings, with some in place until Thursday, November 20.
The weather agency is warning of snow and icy conditions across various areas of the country. Drivers have been warned from making journeys unless it is an "absolute must". However, if necessary, the Met Office, along with other experts, is urging drivers to take precautions, drive safely, and ensure they are prepared for any delays, closures, or incidents.
RAC, which offers car breakdown cover and car insurance services, is calling drivers to "pack for the worst". The car service company has revealed what 17 essential items every driver should have in their car in case they need to make a journey during harsh conditions.
It wrote: "Be prepared for every eventually by ensuring that your car is equipped with the following: demisting pad, torch (wind-up so you don't run out of battery), a hi-vis vest to make you visible if you break down, a blanket to keep you warm, some food, a drink, spare screenwash, de-icer, ice scraper, blanket, shovel, phone charger, map, a first aid kit, a warning triangle, some jump leads, a spade and a square of carpet that you can use to put under your drive wheels should you get stuck in the snow."
Drivers should always wear comfortable and dry footwear when driving in snow, and it is advisable to shift into second gear to help reduce the risk of wheel slip.

The Met Office advises that from Monday, November 17, to Thursday, November 20, Brits can expect icy patches, possible travel delays, power cuts and some rural communities may become cut off. The weather forecaster advised preparing for delayed or cancelled bus and train services.
It also warned that "gusty winds and perhaps a few lightning strikes may accompany some of the showers, posing as additional hazards".
Weather warnings can change rapidly, so it is essential to stay informed with local weather forecasts.
