“Are they afraid to talk to him?”
Today, the NASCAR Cup Series is racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. We say drama between teammates at Joe Gibbs Racing.
Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs were in a battle for 11th. Hamlin was looking for the spot and his patience tank ran out.
Gibbs was racing very defensive as Hamlin and Bell were both backed up behind him. Hamlin ran him wide in another attempt to clear him but they rubbed doors.
Denny Hamlin screamed on the radio, “What the (expletive)!”
On lap 110, Hamlin had enough. He drove it deep into the corner, clipped the left rear of Gibbs and turned him around.
Gibbs backed it into the fence. He picked up moderate damage.
“What is he doing?!”
Hamlin and Bell are both in the playoffs. Ty Gibbs did not make the 2025 playoff battle.
Ty Gibbs is the grandson of Joe Gibbs. Joe Gibbs is the owner of Joe Gibbs Racing.
Hamlin asked his crew, “Are they afraid to talk to him? That’s what I feel like. They’re just scared of him.”
The No. 11 team responded, “I don’t know the answer to that right now. I’m just focused on trying to get the finish. We’ll talk.”
“Game on,” the driver of the No. 54 stated while getting a tow to the garage.
22-year-old Gibbs is currently in his third full-time NASCAR Cup Series season. 44-year-old Hamlin is currently in his 20th full-time season and recently renewed with JGR.
“That’s unfortunate. But, I’m excited to go racing next week and looking forward to it,” Ty Gibbs told USA Sports after the race.

After the race, Hamlin was seen speaking with team owners Joe Gibbs on the pit lane.
“Super unfortunate he got spun there,” Denny Hamlin stated after the race.
“Obviously, the contact came from us. But, I don’t have any other comment other than that.”
“It was a really rough race before that.”
A conversation between the two drivers is likely. On Monday, all teams have a meeting with all drivers in the room.
“We’ll work through it. It’s unfortunate the contact happened.”
