Over the weekend, NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin lost his father. Dennis Hamlin passed following a fire at his home.
The fire at the North Carolina property took several hours to extinguish. When the emergency services arrived, two people were outside the home and taken to the hospital.
40-45% of the home was involved in the fire before the fire crews arrived. Multiple fire departments responded to the scene.
Dennis Hamlin passed from injuries sustained in the fire. Denny’s mother, Mary Lou remains in the hospital.
NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin’s father has passed after home fire
On Wednesday, the NASCAR driver issued the following statement:
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with condolences on my father’s passing,” Denny Hamlin opened.
“My mother continues to improve, and our family truly appreciates the outpouring of support and the respect for our privacy during this time.”
The fire remains under investigation.
