China’s answer to Europe’s award-winning Renault 5 is heading to the UK, with the new electric car tipped to be a whopping £5,000 cheaper. The all-electric Geely EX2 is set to hit the forecourts in 2026 with a budget price tag certain to turn customers heads.

Although no official details have been confirmed, the model is expected to land for under £20,000 with Carwow estimating the machine could be available for around £16,000. This would put it firmly cheaper than its biggest rivals in the electric supermini space, with the popular Renault 5 around £21,000.

The model is also set to come in cheaper than the Citroen e-C3, priced around £19,000, and the impressive £21,000 Fiat 500 Electric. Speaking to Car Magazine, Michael Yang, head of Geely Auto UK, said: “We will have to think about the price and financing offer to make it easy for our customers."

The car has already proved its winning potential, with the machine the best-selling model in China last year. Named the Geely Xingyuan, the chassis shifted over 465,000 cars in 2025 and could be set to ruffle some feathers across the continent.

Geely bosses have confirmed the vehicle will launch on forecourts in the autumn of 2026. Customers will have a choice of two variants, with the base model equipped with a 30kWh battery and a 79hp electric motor capable of reaching 193 miles on a single charge.

The higher-end EX2 vehicle will be fitted with a larger 40kWh battery and 116hp motor and can travel farther, with estimates suggesting a range of around 255 miles.

The EX2 has been praised for its roomy interior, with comfortable space behind the driver making it ideal for all the family. There is also a generous boot space of 375 litres which can expand up to 1,320 litres when the rear seats are folded down.

Extra luxuries include the leather-like upholstery and LED headlights with adaptive high-beam technology promising to illuminate the road up to 170 meters ahead.
