A new Chinese electric car that can be converted to a living space at the touch of a button has been dubbed “Tesla’s nightmare”. The stunning Li Mega, an all-electric Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), is one of the most striking on the road and could define the future of people carriers.
The seven-seater is truly one-of-a-kind with stunning dual rotating zero-gravity seats allowing friends and family to sit face to face. A table can also be mounted in the centre, essentially turning the rear passenger cabin into a living space away from home. Li claims the model is fully adaptable, transforming into a living room, cinema, study room, bedroom, or warehouse.
Tesla has not yet dabbled in the people-carrier market, instead deciding to focus on performance models and SUVs. According to travel and lifestyle vlogger Shu Xu, the car could provide a “nightmare” for the US brand if the concept takes off.
TikTok user @shufosho said: “This Chinese EV is Tesla’s nightmare. The second row turns around and creates a living room, it even comes with a table that mounts directly to the floor.
“And if you get tired, it has a zero gravity lounge chair mode to relax in. It has 400 miles of all-electric range and sells for 500,000 Yuan ($70,000).
Underneath the video, Shu added the car can only be described as a “serious Tesla competitor”. The Li Mega was first unveiled in China back in 2024 with the first deliveries reaching customers just a year later.
This Chinese electric car is like a living room on wheels—and a serious Tesla competitor. The second-row seats rotate to face backwards, there's a built-in table, and even a zero-gravity lounge chair mode for ultimate comfort. It still gets 400 miles of all-electric range. Luxury, innovation, and smart design—starting at just 500,000 yuan($70,000 USD). Inside, the car is packed with exciting features including 18-point heated stone massage seats and an innovative 270° wraparound heating system.
The model is even fitted with a dual-purpose refrigerator, memory foam seats, and a 50W wireless charging panel. The Li Mega is currently only available for sale in China, with Europeans and Britons unable to purchase the model at this time.
However, Li Auto is exploring overseas expansion with an R&D centre already in place in Munich, Germany. Tesla could be among a series of traditional Western brands under threat from Chinese EVs as more models enter the market.
Chinese brand BYD has recently started to outsell Tesla in Europe and the UK, suggesting a change in buying patterns. Data revealed that just over 3,000 new BYD models were registered in the UK as of May, compared to just a little more than 2,000 Tesla machines.
