Rally Islas Canarias will remain on the World Rally Championship calendar until 2029.

Graduating from the ERC in 2025, the rally – based on Gran Canaria – was dominated by Toyota’s Kalle Rovanperä but established itself as a unique challenge in the WRC.

The event originally had a deal in place for 2025 and 2026, but today an extension was announced, covering a further three seasons.

Senior events director for WRC Promoter, Simon Larkin, said Rally Islas Canarias “made an impressive and very positive impact on the WRC” due to the character of the roads and the “commitment shown by all local, regional and national partners”.

He added: “Securing this agreement through to 2029 is an important step in building stability and continuity for the championship. Such was the economic impact to the islands from the thousands of visitors who came for the rally and stayed, that all local stakeholders were keen to immediately secure the long-term future for the WRC in Canarias.”

Rally Islas Canarias is round five of the 2026 WRC season, held on April 23-26.
