On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series races at Martinsville Speedway. The half-mile oval is known for causing tempers to rise.

With 77 laps to go of the 400 lap race, Carson Hocevar was sent by Bubba Wallace. It started in turn three as Hocevar blocked the inside lane.
Wallace lined up his rear bumper and shoved Hocevar into the corner. But he wasn’t done. Exiting the corner, Wallace gassed it up and drove into the left rear of Hocevar.
Hocevar and Wallace both spun exiting turn four. They created a parking lot as the field drove into the scene with nowhere to go.
10 other cars were collected in the crash.
Cars involved: Bubba Wallace; Carson Hocevar; Austin Dillon; Daniel Suarez; Chris Buescher; Austin Hill; Riley Herbst; Zane Smith; John Hunter Nemechek; Erik Jones; Michael McDowell; Connor Zilisch
Clint Bowyer added from the broadcast booth, “That was definitely on purpose. That wasn’t a big enough block to warrant that. There’s more to that story.”
Kevin Harvick added, “He was mad!”
Carson Hocevar comments
Hocevar stated over the team radio moments after the incident, “I just tried to not run over him. Got destroyed. That’s frustrating.”
The Spire Motorsports team responded, “You caught him sleeping, he left it open. Then he just ran over you, he lost his mind.”
Hocevar was able to continue the race after the crash. However, he had heavy damage on the left rear.
Bubba Wallace comments
“I just misjudged,” Wallace told Fox Sports after exiting the care center.
“I didn’t appreciate the three wide into [turn] one. Which is fine. Then, I misjudged the center of the corner but I didn’t mean to turn him.”
“What a frustrating day, with so much expectation. We can win Saturday in practice, we just don’t show up on Sunday.”
Wallace was done for the day due to damage sustained in the crash.
Update: The race has since concluded.
