The legal showdown between McLaren Racing and Alex Palou has intensified with McLaren CEO Zak Brown labeling Palou’s claims as “clearly ludicrous.” The case centers on Palou’s decision to break his IndyCar contract with McLaren in late 2023 and remain with Chip Ganassi Racing, where he won three consecutive championships from 2023 to 2025.
Palou alleged during the High Court proceedings in London that Brown misled him about his chances of securing a Formula One seat with McLaren. He claimed Brown told him that the decision to sign Oscar Piastri for F1 in 2023 was made by then team principal Andreas Seidl, not Brown himself. Palou argued this misled him into signing with McLaren’s IndyCar team under false promises of a future F1 drive.
However, Brown vehemently rejected these suggestions in court. When questioned by Palou’s lawyer, Brown stated he was directly involved in key driver decisions and fully backed signing Piastri. Brown laughed off the implication he was not in control of the lineup and dismissed the accusations as “absolute rubbish.”
Despite the bruising public battle and harsh words exchanged in court, Brown expressed no bitterness toward Piastri, affirming confidence in their strong Formula One driver pairing with Lando Norris. The court is scheduled to continue hearing the case, with final arguments expected by early November.
