The FIM MotoGP Stewards give the Italian two Long Laps for Phillip Island for causing a crash

The Lap 1 incident between Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) and Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) in Lombok is still creating headlines ten days on. After a hearing with Bezzecchi wasn’t possible in Indonesia directly after the race, the FIM MotoGP Stewards spoke to the #72 and Aprilia Racing on Thursday morning in Australia.

Thereafter, the Stewards have confirmed a double Long Lap penalty for Bezzecchi for causing a crash, since it’s also a second offense of the season for the Italian. He’ll have to serve that in the Grand Prix race at Phillip Island on Sunday, which Marquez is absent from as he recovers from surgery on the shoulder injury he sustained in the incident.
